No other medium has gone through the roof as much as the streaming portal Twitch . With over 15 million active users every day, the portal, founded in 2011, is the market leader in this sector. While video games are primarily streamed on the platform, a new trend has emerged in a very short time, which is mainly due to two streamers in German-speaking countries.
Casino streams: thrills to touch
In the past few years it was video games like Fortnite, PUBG or Fifa that thrilled the masses on Twitch, now it is the casino streams of streamers like Marcel “MontanaBlack88” Eris and Jens “Knossi” Knossalla, the tens of thousands almost every day Attract viewers to their twitch channels. But why are these streams so incredibly successful?
The question can actually be answered with two words: excitement and entertainment. Most people who have ever sat at a vending machine know the thrill that every shot triggers. The same applies to the casino streams, only that you are not sitting in the (online) casino or the arcade, but are watching someone else – without any commitment of your own.
Another factor that should not be underestimated is the entertainment that the streamers offer their viewers. Anyone who has ever seen Knossi or MontanaBlack knows what I’m talking about, both of which take completely different approaches.
In the following we take a closer look at the two most successful German-speaking casino streamers.
MontanaBlack – Germany’s most successful streamer
Marcel Eris, better known by his stage name “MontanaBlack”, was born on March 2nd, 1988 in Buxtehude. In 2009 he founded his main channel on YouTube, where he uploaded realtalk videos in addition to gaming content. His Realtalk videos often talk about his own past, when he struggled with drug problems. In addition to his main channel, he has also been operating a second channel since 2013, which is almost exclusively about gaming.
MontanaBlack has been on Twitch since 2014 and has become the most successful German-speaking streamer there. His streams of video games like Call of Duty, Fifa or Mario Kart in particular are regularly watched by tens of thousands of viewers.
MontanaBlack started with the casino streams last year. According to his own statement, he had been fascinated by gambling before and was more often in the gaming halls and casinos in the area. In his streams one is directly aware of this, because he knows what he is talking about and how the individual slots work. Of course, this is also well received by his audience, who have mostly been to a casino themselves.
Knossi – In MontanaBlack’s footsteps
Jens “TheRealKnossi” Knossalla has not been there for too long, but is no less well known. Knossi was born on July 7th, 1986 in Malsch and became more famous for the first time in 2011 when he won the casting show “Pokerstars sucht das PokerAss” broadcast by ProSieben.
As a result, Knossi appeared in several smaller roles in various TV formats, but also remained loyal to poker . At the World Series of Poker 2013 main event, he finished 240th out of a total of 6,352 players, earning him nearly $ 40,000 in prize money. In addition, Martin “Potti” Pott was always on hand as a commentator at various poker events and had already built up an impressive fan base.
Since 2016, however, his main focus has been on his Twitch channel. There he mainly streams slots. One of his trademarks is the crown, which he doesn’t just wear in his streams. In addition, he is best known for his impulsive nature and funny sayings. Its different costumes for certain slots also create a very special atmosphere.
MontanaBlack and Knossi – The record stream
Are not only the most successful German streamers, but also private friends. Both Knossi and MontanBlack are often part of each other’s streams. In early September, Knossi visited MontanaBlack in Buxtehude. Before the actual casino stream, the two were still in Buxtehude and the camera was of course always with them. Above all, this was again a journey into the past of MontanaBlack, who told many stories from his childhood during the real-life stream.
The absolute highlight followed in the evening when the two played slots in front of almost 200,000 live viewers . The stakes were incredibly high (up to € 100 per spin), but the spectators seemed to like it and both made for an unforgettable stream.
Casino Streams Just Hype?
Finally, of course, the question arises whether these casino streams are only a temporary fad or are they becoming an integral part of Twitch?
Of course, opinions differ here. The numbers actually suggest that the end of the flag is far from over. Both Knossi and MontanaBlack make an average of almost 2,000 followers on Twitch every day. Not only the numbers also Twitch speak for the current trend. Knossi’s YouTube channel, on which he usually uploads stream highlights, has had more than half a million subscribers within six months.
On the other hand, there are also enough people who cannot get anything from the streams. For them, it’s just a hype that will level off like that of many video games before.
But one thing is certain, time will tell where the whole thing is going.
